The Food Shed

Land to Table is pleased to announce The Food Shed, a centralized food distribution program that will expand the capacity of local food producers while ensuring non-profits, schools, and other community organizations have access to affordable, nutritious food.

On March 17, we gathered with Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and MLA for Vernon-Lumby, and Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food, to announce and celebrate a $1 million investment from the Province of British Columbia and United Way BC to develop The Food Shed.

Thanks to the provincially funded United Way BC Large Food Infrastructure Grant, more people in the North Okanagan and neighboring regions will soon have better access to healthy, fresh food. This investment bolsters critical food infrastructure that our community has long called for.

With this funding, we are partnering with Valley Direct Foods for warehousing and distribution at the Rancho Vignola site in Armstrong to:

✅ Centralize procurement, processing, packing, and distribution

✅ Establish a year-round supply of local food for schools, institutions, and service agencies

✅ Support local farmers and keep revenue in our regional economy

✅ Strengthen long-term food security and resilience

We are grateful to our partners, including Valley Direct Foods, for their collaboration in making The Food Shed a reality. Together, we are building the infrastructure needed to create a stronger, more sustainable food system for our communities
